It was only going to be a matter of time before Bivouac established himself as a leading stallion and he is absolutely jumping out of the ground right now. This shapes as the year to buy — as his progeny continue to win the big races, his popularity will rise sharply and opportunities to secure them at this price point will quickly disappear.

We are delighted to have secured an early-running colt by the emerging stallion Bivouac, already the sire of elite performers and this season’s headline juveniles. He looks a sharp, precocious type who profiles as one we can target towards the early two-year-old races, and in a few months’ time we may simply not be able to buy one by him at this level again.

The colt is out of the Stakes-Placed mare Smokin Val, who was also fourth on two occasions at Group 3 level in the MVRC Typhoon Tracy Stakes and the Proud Miss Stakes. Further down the pedigree page you’ll find Aurora’s Symphony, a 10-time winner with three Group 3 victories and $991,515 in prizemoney, along with Group 1 Sydney Cup winner Niwot, who added a further three black-type wins and over $1.26 million in earnings. It is a deep, proven black-type family with genuine toughness and durability.

Physically, he is a short-coupled colt with the action of a much bigger horse, showing excellent stretch and purpose through his stride. His movement and overall shape are reminiscent of former stable star All That Pizzazz, who we also secured from this very sale in 2021. He presents as an early, sharp prospect and represents outstanding value at $60,000.

He will head to Tony Gollan, who has enjoyed terrific success with the First Light team, and we are genuinely excited to see how he develops. He looks a colt very much on the rise — and by a stallion whose stock we expect will only become harder to secure as the season unfolds.
