Karaka 2026 | Lot 286
Bay filly by Circus Maximus (Galileo) out of Assume (Fastnet Rock)
Vendor: Pencarrow Stud | Purchased for NZ$30,000
We couldn’t be happier to have secured this sleek, athletic filly at Karaka — she has all the makings of a true staying type, and from the moment we saw her, Jason felt she profiles as a genuine Oaks-style filly. She’s the sort that should keep improving with time, strengthen into her three-year-old season, and really come into her own as the distances rise. Jason couldn’t resist a little joke either (with a grin): “I reckon we’ve stolen one back off the Kiwis for once.” At the money, we genuinely feel she’s been an absolute steal and a serious value buy.
She is by Circus Maximus, a multiple Group 1-winning son of the great Galileo — and that influence matters. Galileo blood is synonymous with class, toughness and stamina, and we love how close the European staying influence sits in this pedigree. What excites us is the timing: Circus Maximus’ Southern Hemisphere-breds are now reaching their 3YO season, and this is where the better, classic-leaning stallions can really start to show their hand. Jason’s view is that his progeny look like they’re about to explode as they mature and get over more ground. NZB’s catalogue snapshot (as published) lists 55 runners / 23 winners, with early stakes performers already on the board.
On the dam side, Assume (by Fastnet Rock) adds strength and constitution, and she brings proven performance to the page — a winner and Listed-performed in Ireland. That blend of Fastnet Rock power with European depth is a terrific foundation for an Australian staying filly. As a producer she’s already getting results, with NZB noting 3 foals to race for 2 winners, including multiple winners at home and abroad. The broader family also carries European quality close up, reinforcing why we think she’ll relax, travel, and run a proper trip — the kind of filly who can improve sharply from two to three and beyond.
Jason’s immediate notes were simple: athletic and sleek, not overdone, but exactly the type to furnish with time; a filly who should relax and lengthen; and a pedigree that suggests she’ll be better the further she goes, particularly as a three-year-old. We’ll educate her patiently and map a program aimed at those classic staying targets in Australia.
Ownership is available. A 10% share is $4,070 — fully inclusive, home landed in Australia. That price includes flights home, GST, vetting and scope, insurances, and transport from the sales complex, with all costs covered to have her arrive in Australia ready to go on with. If you’d like to be involved, message us and we’ll send through the full ownership details and paperwork.
