EISMOND (JPN) 4yo (Northern Hemisphere 3yo) MARE

EISMOND raced 14 times without a win but showed consistent form: three 2nd placings and six 3rd placings. She was repeatedly outperformed only by high-class rivals who have proven in Group grades.
Those opponents are graded-stakes calibre, so Eismond is very much a filly who, with a bit of luck, should have graduated to the winner’s circle.
EISMOND
By pedigree (a daughter of Satsuki Sho winner Epoca d'Oro), Eismond shows the same prominent, forward-running style as her sire. Although she never managed a victory in 14 starts, she finished in the top three on nine occasions, demonstrating reliable and competitive form.
Notably, she finished just 0.1 seconds behind Dragon Boost (the G2 Daily Hai runner-up), showing she can run very close to top juvenile performers. Observers had expected it was only a matter of time before she broke through.
Her form slipped toward the end of her campaign due to heavy use and accumulated fatigue, but the jockey who rode her four times, Ryusei Sakai, commented:
“She fell away at the end from being raced too frequently, but once refreshed she’s the type that will win straight away.”
Her legs and feet are sound — there have been no problems to date — and connections who know her well rate her as having the ability to win at the one-win class level. With a proper spell and a rebuilding program in Australia, she is expected to show her true ability.
SIRE: Epoca d'Oro
A Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) winner who used his speed to secure that G1. He finished 2nd in the Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby) and was prominent in the Kikuka Sho, establishing himself as a promising successor to Orfevre as a stallion. Although Epoca d'Oro’s crop size is still relatively small, his offspring have already produced winners in JRA, and, similar to Orfevre’s progeny, many of his winners have performed well on Tokyo turf.
DAM: Major Charmant
A highly regarded mare who fetched nearly ¥50,000,000 at the Select Sale. Her dam, La Charmante, was an outstanding race mare in Argentina with five graded stakes wins and multiple G1 placings. In the wider family is Season Rich, a winner of the Mainichi Hai.
Cross note: The cross of Epoca d'Oro × (damsire) Daiwa Major is not common, but has already produced Coco Kyunkyun , who delivered Epoca d'Oro his first graded-stakes winner and has four wins from six starts — suggesting the cross can be very successful.
Inbreeding: Eismond has 5×4 Northern Taste cross, which adds an attractive element to her pedigree from a bloodline perspective.
Many Japanese horses have been exported to Australia and subsequently flourished — examples include BRAVE SMASH, MERDE CLACE, and OBANBURUMAI— and several successful imports carry Northern Taste within the first five generations.
