Kobayashi / The Cure - 2024 Filly

At every horse sale, we hear a hundred different ways to describe a horse. What every agent and trainer looks for during physical inspections is a 'good type'. While this might mean slightly different things to different people on paper, when a truly 'good type' steps out, it is recognised. Essentially, everything is in balance - they're not too tall or too short, too wide nor too narrow. They have enough scope without being too long and enough leg without looking 'leggy'. Even at the top of the market, where pedigrees might as well be dipped in pure gold, a good type can be hard to find.

This homebred filly is a lovely type - even as she comes out of winter, you can see that shape and substance that can't be dimmed with a slightly woolly coat. The angle of her shoulder and hip match up beautifully. She has a good length of rein and lovely depth to her ribcage. Her dam has thrown a good type before and this filly really does make for a pretty picture.

From a pedigree perspective, there is plenty to like about this horse too. Kobayashi is a son of the great I Am Invincible - one of the best and most influential stallions in Australia of the last decade. His sons include the likes of Home Affairs - currently one of the most talked-about stallions in the Southern Hemisphere. I Am Invincible is celebrated both on the racetrack as a producer of talented performers, but also in the sales ring, where his stock are renowned for their immaculate 'type'. Kobayashi - a son of I Am Invincible - was trained by Malua and the team know him well. He showed excellent early promise, securing a Stakes win as a 2YO. Unfortunately, his career was cut short by injury, though he has enjoyed success in the breeding barn since. Midnight In Tokyo continues to capture headlines, securing her 9th win at the start of this season in G3 company. Our own Marble Nine is another Stakes winner by Kobayashi, and a horse we have held in high regard.

This filly is bred along the same cross as Mishani Lily - a smart filly at two who won on 6 occasions, including in Stakes company. Another winner by Kobayashi out of a Written Tycoon mare is The Birthday Party - this filly's full sister. We have seen this play out before then - a lovely type, homegrown to enjoy success on the track.

There is quality on the page with winners at every corner. We love to see consistency in families and the depth that produced the likes of Fastnet Rock has shown up again and again.

She has broken in well and has shown herself to be a thoroughly likeable individual. She's intelligent and quick to learn, with a big, honest heart. This is a horse who puts herself forward and shows up without fuss.
