A magnificent Noverre Colt heading to the seventeen time Group 1 winning Grahame Begg

We are thrilled to offer this stunning Noverre yearling colt. He heads to the 17 time Group 1 winning trainer Grahame Begg at Cranbourne. Tough to get a horse into his stable as Grahame limits his numbers and vets the horses he is prepared to take. He loved this colt as much as we did and it’s a coup for us that heads to one of the most in form stables in the country. This season his results are amazing, 37 winners already, a staggering 27.80% strike rate and over $2 million in prize money won.

Our first horse with Grahame sold within 72 hours of release and no doubt this colt will prove as popular. Each year we review the first season stallions and try to spot the stallion that will make his mark. This year that stallion was Noverre and when we left the Gold Coast yearling sales we feared we wouldn’t be able to strike as his three yearlings sold for a combined $1,050,000.

Noverre is a son of the Champion Southern Hemisphere champion Savabeel . His win in the NZ 2000 Guineas is frankly breathtaking, switching off heels and producing an electric turn of foot to win. We finally found our Noverre at the Karaka sale, a stunning colt bred and raised on the hallowed NZ turf. Out of an unraced Reliable Man mare and we have a passion for unraced mares as their success in the breeding barn is exceptional. Reliable Man was Champion broodmare sire in GB/ire 7 times and in France 8 times, so you get the picture , he is a prolific influence in the breeding barn.

When this colt stepped out of the stable, he just oozed class and presence. He’s an outstanding physical specimen with an unmistakable likeness to the stallion and the great Savabeel line.

The stallion is a striking individual, and Waikato Stud couldn’t be prouder of the progeny he’s producing. As they put it: “Noverre is a big, strapping, dark horse like his sire, and possibly even better looking than Savabeel.” They also note: “The foals that Noverre has been leaving are incredibly strong, beautifully headed, dark-coloured horses.”

So far this sales season, those words have rung true. At the Magic Millions, his three yearlings sold for $140,000, $410,000, and $500,000. At Karaka, he had 16 colts and fillies sell for up to $310,000, averaging $135,000. While our colt may not have the blueblood pedigree of some of the more expensive ones, he has the physical presence and athleticism we look for. And at Grand Syndicates, we buy horses that look like runners first and worry about the pedigree later. That philosophy has served us very well!

Our consulting vet at Karaka summed him up perfectly: “Very nice body, attractive head, medium size, walks well. Nice.”
