Shamexpress (NZ) x Sensibility (NZ) – 2023 Bay Gelding
Want to race the next Ka Ying Rising! This NZB Ready to Run Sale gelding has already proven he can gallop, he’s clocked a slick 10.67s breeze, and he’s on his way home to Australia from the same sale that has produced stars like Mr Brightside and a wave of recent Group-winning graduates including Feroce (Australian Guineas), Antino (Doomben Cup), War Machine (Stradbroke), Gringotts and Ceolwulf, plus other top Karaka performers Aeliana and Grail Seeker. This horse is ready to get on a plane and start racing in Melbourne.
We’re rapt to have secured Lot 96, a quality bay gelding by Shamexpress out of the Savabeel mare Sensibility, at the 2025 NZB Ready to Run Sale. He was a standout physically and, at $120,000, we feel he’s genuine value for money in a very strong sale.
Shamexpress is now the sire of world’s best sprinter and Everest winner Ka Ying Rising, a Hong Kong superstar who has cemented himself as the top-rated sprinter on the planet. Our new gelding is bred on that same high-class Kiwi speed line, backed by a deep New Zealand family.
His dam Sensibility (by Savabeel) is already a proven producer with three winners from four to race, including multiple winner and stakes-performed Psyclone, recent Riccarton winner Pequot, and 1600m winner Lockdown Legacy. Sensibility herself is closely related to classy mare Angelic Miss and traces to the excellent Greta Hall family, which has thrown Group 1 performers such as Golden Sword, Royal Descent and Fox Hall. It’s a current, producing page with plenty of upside.
From a physical point of view he’s super athletic, with a loose, supple walk and plenty of quality. Our inspections returned clean X-rays and a Grade 1 scope, so he ticks the boxes on type and vet. At the breeze-ups he was all business, running a sharp 10.67s for his 200m breeze on a Soft 5 with a strong cross-wind, and doing it like a gelding who will only improve as he strengthens.
We also have great confidence in the system he’s come through. From the same sale we purchased Snitz Sonic (by Snitzel), who has already run second on debut at Sandown, won his next start and then went to Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day, shaping as a horse destined to get out over 2000m and beyond. This new Shamexpress gelding gives us that same feel of a horse who will thrive with our program and has real trade and Hong Kong appeal, given the Ka Ying Rising story.
It’s also special to be bringing him home from Karaka, the sales complex that has produced champions like Mr Brightside – a Karaka graduate who was originally a modest May Sale purchase and even passed through the Ready to Run ring before going on to multiple Group 1 glory.
In summary, Lot 96 offers:

A Shamexpress gelding – same sire as world champion sprinter Ka Ying Rising
-
A Savabeel mare who already has three winners on the page, including recent black-type form
-
Clean X-rays, Grade 1 scope and a professional, fast breeze-up (10.67s)
