The adonis! We were rapt to secure this colt after seeing him early in our inspections. He was at the complex with the Book 1 horses and he certainly didn’t look out of place amongst those horses. He was a target, and we’re stoked to secure him with Henry Dwyer Racing.
This colt is by Japanese stallion Staphanos, who we think is very underrated by the market. He has made an excellent start to stud in NZ with Pignanwinning the Group 1 Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes and Basalinna placing in the VRC Oaks.
He is a strong colt with plenty of strength but still moves light on his feet. He has good bone and muscle and moves really well. He reminded us a lot of Staphanos himself.
We think this is the sort of horse a trainer would love to train. He will eat up the work and be itching to get out of the box each day.
He looks as though he will develop into a lovely three-year-old and be a perfect Guineas and Derby type through the Spring and then the Autumn.
He combines some strong Japanese blood through Deep Impact with some strong Kiwi bloodlines through O’Reilly as the damsire and then Pins as the maternal grandsire.
SIRE: STAPHANOS
You know we love Japanese line stallions and we have a veyr good understanding of them also. Staphanos is by the legendary Deep Impact and was a terrific racehorse in Japan.
He placed in five Group 1 races across Japan and Hong Kong, finishing second in three of those races. Perhaps with a little luck in any one of those races and he wouldn’t be as accessible to breeders. Fortunately, the team at Novara Park had the foresight to bring him to New Zealand and he is rewarding them.
DAM: O’SAM
O’sam was a winner over a mile and is by Champion Broodmare Sire O’Reilly. He is on his way for another title this season. His daughters have produced 20 Group 1 winners including Pride Of Jenni. O’sam is a three-quarter-sister to Hong Kong Group 3 winner Nimble Nimbus who recently placed at Group 2 level, showing he is still racing really well.

現役時代は31戦4勝、重賞勝利は2014年の富士ステークスG3のみですが

2019年にNZで種牡馬入りすると、初年度産駒から2歳G1・マナワツサイヤーズプロデュースを勝ったピニャンを出しており、多くのステークスで好走馬を輩出しています。産駒は1200m以下の短距離から2000mまでの幅広い距離で活躍しています。
母オーサム
1歳馬セールでは13万ドルの高値で取引された期待馬で現役時代は13戦１勝、2着２回、3着３回。デビュー戦で2着するなど早い時期から力を見せ、マイル戦前後で活躍しました。
3/4兄妹には香港でG3センテナリーヴァーズ勝ち、G1で3着の実績のあるニンブルニンバスがいます。
また母系を遡れば、シャンドリーム、ダブリーシュアとマイルで活躍しブラックタイプとなった馬たちがおり、厚い母系を形成しています。
本馬の魅力
父母の良いところを受け継いだコンパクトな体型からはマイルからも活躍出来そうです。肩やトモには十分な筋肉量があり、しっかりとした腹袋にも好感が持てます。筋肉量豊富でパワーがありそうな見た目に反して柔らかな前脚の捌き、軽い歩きの中にも踏み込みの強さがみられ、早い時期から両親同様に活躍が期待できるでしょう。
本馬は現在NZにて放牧中で、3月の輸送便での渡豪を予定しております。
