This colt is by STATE OF REST-a true Group 1 international superstar who’s being given every opportunity to make it as a stallion.
A quality winner as a 2-year-old, State Of Rest announced himself on the international Group 1 stage with victory in the Saratoga Derby. He then produced one of the great international performances of recent years when winning the 2021 Cox Plate-giving the outstanding Anamoe seven kilos and a beating. He went on to win further Group 1 races in France and the United Kingdom, retiring as a Group 1 winner in four different countries. Remarkably, he remains the only horse to win three consecutive Group 1 races on three different continents.
As a stallion at stud, State Of Rest has already made a strong impression with his first yearlings. His Northern Hemisphere yearlings have sold for more than A$600,000, while his first Australian yearlings have sold up to $425,000. He’s already on the winners’ board in the Northern Hemisphere, and the early reports around his Southern Hemisphere progeny are extremely encouraging.
We secured this colt at the 2026 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. Physically, he’s a strong, powerful, bold-walking colt who gives every indication that he’ll develop into a genuine staying prospect. He has scope, strength, presence, and that lovely loose walk we always like to see in a young horse. Pedigree wise, his dam line is packed with winners, and through Buccellati we also get the legendary influence of Zabeel, one of the great staying influences of the modern era. Buccellati has already produced a winner, while her 2025 yearling made $240,000, which gives further confidence in the strength of the mare.
Our preferred pedigree assessment tool, G1 Goldmine, rates his pedigree as a 20/20 match, suggesting his optimum distance range could be from 1600m to 2000 metres. Could that one day put him on a Cox Plate path? We can but dream — and that’s half the fun of racehorse ownership.
With regards to a trainer, we’re delighted to announce that this colt will be the third of our 2026 yearling crop to head to the outstanding Victorian training operation of Patrick Payne. Season after season, Patrick continues to produce results that often outperform the profile and price tag of the horses under his care. At the time of writing he is sitting third in trainers table in Victoria and is striking at remarkable 23.10% for the season. He’s a genuine hands-on horseman who treats every horse as an individual, regardless of pedigree, purchase price or expectation. That approach makes him the ideal trainer for this strong, staying-bred colt by State Of Rest.
Standard 5% shares are $4,880 which includes all costs to the end of December 2026.
Syndicate fees are $68.10/week (billed quarter in advance).
