By a Blue Diamond winning stallion whose eldest are 3yo’s and who’s doing a great job at stud, from a three-time city winning Redoute’s Choice mare, this colt is an extremely impressive physical specimen.

Tagaloa epitomises the modern Australian stallion - he’s good looking, a Gr.1 Blue Diamond winner at two, trained on at three and is a complete outcross to all of Australia’s Danehill line mares.

This colt will be the first to the races for his dam, Derive. She’s from a top Japanese family so the colt is by a son of one of the best modern day Japanese horses in Lord Kanaloa, out of a daughter of one of the best modern day Australian horses in Redoute’s Choice. His family features multiple Group 1 winners in Japan, plus Champion German horse Manduro, so his pedigree certainly stacks up!

Purchased at this week’s Inglis Classic Sale for $90k+GST, the colt is strong, robust, correct, a good mover and as a result of these things, highly trainable. He looks like an old-fashioned tough, colonial horse who’ll knock up winning races around the 1400-1600m range. Being out of a Redoute’s Choice mare, he’s bred on the same cross as leading New Zealand 3yo Allotago and promising Victorian 3yo Tagline, second in two stakes races over the Spring Carnival.

The colt will spell for six weeks prior to heading to Brad Pearson to be broken in. Like his father, he’s strong and looks like he’ll cope with 2yo racing and beyond, so we won’t be waiting long.
