Our second purchase of last night’s Goffs Breeze Up Sale was what we perceived to be the best Too Darn Hot colt in the sale. While Too Darn Hot’s commercial appeal in Australia is immense, it far outweighs his Northern Hemisphere demand, and hence we thought it would make sense to try and find some nice colts by him in Europe to eventually race in Australia. The added benefit of buying at a two-year-old sale you’re alleviating eight months of risk and seeing the horse broken in and able to gallop over two furlongs, to make a more informed assessment.

Too Darn Hot continues to rewrite the record books in Australia. His first crop outperformed Redoute’s Choice, Zoustar and Fastnet Rock at the same stage of their careers and he’s now leading third season stallion ahead of a crack group including Alabama Express, Blue Point and Castelvecchio. From just 153 Australian runners he has produced 96 winners, including 14 Stakes winners and nine Group winners, a strong 9.1% Stakes winners-to-runners, led by four-time G1 winner and Champion two-year-old Broadsiding.

Too Darn Hot is certainly a stallion in demand, which was emphasised at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale with a $2.2 million colt, the highest-priced Too Darn Hot yearling sold in Australia. He was one of two seven-figure yearlings, with a colt from La Magique selling for $1.3 million. From nine yearlings presented at Easter, Too Darn Hot’s progeny sold for a gross of almost $6.77 million at an average of $751,667 and a median of $440,000. Across all Australian yearling sales in 2026 Too Darn Hot’s progeny have averaged $285k from his 35 yearlings sold.

Our Too Darn Hot colt is out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Jumira Princess and was initially purchased as a weanling for €80k as a foal in late 2024. Much of Too Darn Hot’s success in the southern hemisphere has come when matched with Danehill line mares, daughters of Fastnet Rock, Exceed and Excel, Magnus, Snitzel and obviously Redoute’s Choice himself.

We know that Too Darn Hot is an elite stallion, we know that when crossed with Danehill mares he produces a higher rate of elite horses and we know his progeny comparatively perform better in Australia than anywhere else. When you add in the fact this colt is among the better types by the stallion to go to sale this year and he’s shown he has a lovely action and temperament in his breeze up, it would seem obvious we’re taking a fair bit of risk out of the equation.

The colt isn’t a precocious, jump and run type two-year-old and will likely be seen to best effect as a three-year-old over further, much like his close relation Meydaan, who recently won the G2 Al Maktoum Classic and placed third in the G1 Dubai World Cup. As opposed to the bulk of the catalogue who were scrubbed up, under the whip and ridden right out in their breeze, this colt wasn’t asked the question and comes from a renowned consignor in Yeomanstown, who leave plenty in the tank. The colt will stay in Europe for the next 18 months prior to being transported to Australia as a late three-year-old. We’d like to think he could potentially have a run or two as a late two-year-old in September or October before looking toward 1600m plus races over his three-year-old season next year.

Inclusive of purchase price, VAT, agent’s commission, vetting and insurance, shares in the colt are being sold for $258,182 pro rata. If you wish to be involved please get in touch with Steph steph@henrydwyer.com.au or Kratzie kratzie@henrydwyer.com.au .
