Toronado / Nice For What F 24
We’re delighted to have secured a beautiful filly by Toronado at great value. From an excellent family, there is depth to the page that compliments her striking physique.
There are 38 yearlings by Toronado at the Melbourne Premier Sale, so we had plenty of smart horses to choose from. This filly certainly holds her own, with strength and balance across her frame and a bright outlook. Consigned by Gilgai Farm, she has enjoyed an excellent start to life. Foaled on the farm, the team are well known for their attention to detail, which has paid dividends in their results. In their first crop of yearlings offered at public auction, they sold the legendary Black Caviar. Since then, they have sold consistently talented horses at great value, developing an excellent reputation within the industry. The team at Gilgai speak fondly about this filly, who is the second foal from the winning mare Nice For What. She is a half-sister to the Group 1-winning Montefilia and was a classy racemare herself, placing in stakes company. Her first foal, a colt also by Toronado, sold last year for $600,000 at the Inglis Easter Sale, giving us a strong indication that she produces beautiful stock. Further down the page, we continue to see impressive performers with stakes wins in Europe and Hong Kong, suggesting there is great depth to the quality within the family.
We were immediately impressed by this filly’s attitude and professionalism. She approached the hectic sales environment with a level head and plenty of patience, never losing her temper or misbehaving. The Gilgai team commented on her beautiful nature, explaining that it is inherited from her mother, who is gentle and kind in every respect. Chestnut fillies are often stereotyped as hot-tempered and difficult; nothing could be further from the truth for this one, who has been consistent in her approach to life as a bright and happy individual. Despite this, she is no pushover, showing grit and determination throughout her sales preparation. According to the farm manager, she has been quick to learn and has thrived in work, giving us every indication that she will enjoy her education and apply herself wholeheartedly to her career.
Physically, she is a real head-turner. With a deep, rich chestnut coat, she will never fade into the background. When she moves, she is efficient, using herself to walk out with fluency. We see all of Toronado’s strength and power in her shape, with a beautiful shoulder and plenty of engine evident in her hindquarters. We were delighted to secure her for $100,000 and feel that she represents fantastic value.
